Unlike politicians, operating systems (OS) don't get a honeymoon with the general public. Windows 7 has been on the market for [about] 100 days now, so -- as in politics -- it's a good time to review how the software has performed so far. The results are largely positive.
Intel and Hitachi Global Storage Technologies are teaming up to produce solid-state drives for servers, workstations and storage systems. The partners plan to deliver enterprise-class products equipped with Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and Fibre Channel (FC) interfaces.
The jointly produced offerings will be exclusively sold and supported by Hitachi GST, beginning in early 2010.

The jointly produced offerings, which will incorporate chips based on Intel's multi-level cell (MLC) memory technology, will be exclusively sold and supported by Hitachi GST, beginning in early 2010.

Micron announced Tuesday that it will soon begin delivering 256GB solid-state drives for notebooks and servers. SSDs have quicker access times and consume less power than standard SATA or SCSI hard drives.
The 256GB drives could begin showing up in laptops and notebooks this winter along with 32GB and 128GB versions. But Micron spokesperson Beth Gregg said that due to demand, "The next crop of sample drives will not be available for seven to eight weeks."
Hoping to continue building momentum for its Silverlight technology, Microsoft announced Monday that major content providers are coming aboard and it unveiled a new digital-rights management (DRM) system.
The announcement, at the National Association of Broadcasters show in Las Vegas, said Silverlight technology will be used by Madison Square Garden Interactive, Tencent, Abertis Telecom, Terra Networks Operations, SCSi, MNet, and Yahoo Japan.
