Apple is one step closer to potentially taking a bite out of Nokia's U.S. market share. The U.S. International Trade Commission on Thursday said it will review the iPhone maker's complaint against the Finland-based mobile-phone giant. The ITC is also reviewing a similar complaint from Nokia against Apple.

In a move to compete in a broader smartphone market, Research In Motion on Tuesday rolled out BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express. The free server software wirelessly syncs BlackBerry smartphones with Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Windows Small Business Server.
RIM is giving away the software to leverage what it sees as two key market opportunities -- small businesses and consumers. With Apple's iPhone grabbing the attention of these growing smartphone audiences, RIM figures free software could help woo these demographics to its platform.

Google on Wednesday announced plans to experiment with ultrafast Internet access -- more than 100 times faster than most Americans have access to today with one-gigabit-per-second connections. Google expects to offer the fiber service at a competitive price to between 50,000 and 500,000 people in several cities.

For the second time in six weeks, Apple has offered a firmware download to address problems on its new iMac 27-inch liquid crystal display. A 294-kilobyte download from Apple's web site entitled 27-inch iMac Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 comes on the heels of a similar but much larger update in December that was 683 kilobytes.
While the first update was for the ATI Radeon HD 4670 and 4850 graphics cards, the latest release is for the display firmware, or closed control program.

Sony Computer Entertainment has slammed the brakes on its PlayStation 3 motion controller. The Tokyo-based company pushed back the controller's release to the fall, about the time that rival Microsoft plans to launch similar Xbox 360 technology dubbed Project Natal.
The motion controller will be made available in Japan, Asian regions, North America, and Europe/PAL territories in the fall, Sony said. It added that the delay involves several factors, including making changes to the device.
In the latest in the Nexus One saga, Google and T-Mobile have made changes to the pricing policy for the controversial device. The companies are lowering the price of the Nexus One by $100 for some existing customers.
The new pricing paradigm means T-Mobile subscribers who are eligible can get the Nexus One for $279 instead of $379. Google has pledged to give refunds to T-Mobile customers who paid the higher price, though it is not clear whether that refund will come in the form of a T-Mobile billing credit or a gift card.
The Consumer Electronics Association ended the decade on a happy note with an overall increase in numbers at this year's International Consumer Electronics Show. Having faced a tough economy with decreased sales, more competition, and upset shareholders, technology companies were eager to show the world what they have been working on.
More than 2,500 tech companies unveiled more than 20,000 new products at CES. While the show saw repeat vendors, a record 330 new exhibitors came to display innovations, including wrist PCs, 3-D TVs and new services.

At least some of the tablet rumors have turned out to be true. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer on Wednesday night introduced a Windows touchscreen tablet computer manufactured by Hewlett-Packard. Ballmer was likely trying to steal some thunder from Apple, which is widely expected to unveil a tablet computer later this month.
If Apple doesn't steal the thunder from this week's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) with rumors of a tablet computer, Google may pull a hefty share of the headlines away from the showroom floor with its highly anticipated Google phone. The company is set to hold a briefing about its smartphone plans on Tuesday as competitors show their new wares at CES at a different venue.
The most eagerly awaited tablet since Moses delivered the Ten Commandments may be only weeks away from launch. Speculation about Apple's touchscreen reader and viewer -- essentially a big iPod mated with a Kindle -- exploded after the computer giant rented the Yerba Beuna Center for the Arts in San Francisco, the site of previous product launches, for a few days in late January.
Because new versions of the iPod and iPhone were released in the past year, analysts expect the January event will showcase a brand-new product.
