European Union regulators Thursday launched an antitrust probe into U.S. software maker Oracle Corp.'s takeover of Sun Microsystems Inc., saying they wanted to make sure Oracle wouldn't hinder Sun's rival open-source database software.

Microsoft's recent launch of its search engine Bing (http://www.bing.com) prompted many to stray from Google for the first time in a while.
What they found was a search engine with a few nifty tricks up its sleeve.
But Bing isn't the only alternative search engine that has managed to introduce features that search kings Google and Yahoo don't have.
Plenty of newcomers are innovating in ways that can add up to significant productivity gains for you as you search for information on the Internet. Here are a few.

In today's struggling economy, every dollar counts, particularly in the volatile field of online advertising. Like most of the major search engines, Yahoo has seen its advertising revenues decline, putting additional pressure on a company already rocked by leadership changes and a falling market share.
In an effort to help companies get more value for their online advertising dollars, Yahoo announced Tuesday that it is offering three new targeting tools: Search Retargeting, Enhanced Retargeting, and Enhanced Targeting.
One of the most useful free tools out there is Google Trends and I’m continually surprised by the innovative ways I see it used by my colleagues. Beyond the obvious function in SEM and SEO campaigns, the half of all internet users who are starting their session with a good Google must be giving use some other useful information. Google showcased this recently with their Flu Trends project and it got me thinking about other ways to bring the line graphs to life.

She did it again: Britney Spears was the most popular search term on Yahoo for the fourth year in a row -- her seventh time topping the list.
Spears bested World Wrestling Entertainment, Barack Obama, Miley Cyrus and the online game "RuneScape" as the five most-searched terms of 2008, the Web portal and search company announced Monday, a day before the singer released her new album "Circus."
At WOMMA 2008, I attended two leading brand breakout sessions- Hershey’s and McDonald’s. Each presented a case study on how they successfully used word of mouth marketing to launch a new offering to their customers.
