Intel has rolled out the first iterations of its highly anticipated Core i7 processor. Available at prices starting at $284, the new chips for desktop PCs sport new technologies to boost performance on demand while maximizing data throughput.

Intel said Monday that its first desktop processor based on its new Nehalem microarchitecture will be called Intel Core i7. The company also previewed some details about its upcoming Larrabee architecture.

The i7 is the first of a variety of Nehalem-based products designed to provide high performance and energy efficiency, according to Intel.
