For Diane Bisgeier, marking her turf with her iPhone has become as regular as morning coffee. Bisgeier "checks in" at restaurants, cafes, and theaters around San Francisco using Gowalla, a popular iPhone app that lets people broadcast their locations, find friends, and compete to see who's shown up somewhere the most.

The founders of Foodzie aren't your garden-variety tech entrepreneurs.
Yes, the online specialty grocer has an office in San Francisco's startup-laden South of Market district. Over the last few years, Digg has become Silicon Valley's version of the boy who cried wolf. Like the child who warned local villagers that a wolf was about to attack his flock of sheep, potential buyers of Digg have repeatedly leaked reports that the company was about to be sold, but a sale was never consummated.

Megatechtronium is pulling the plug on its microblogging social-network site that allowed users to send music, photos and messages to friends using the Pownce Web site or desktop software.
Megatechtronium, a San Francisco-based company created by Digg founder Kevin Rose along with Leah Culver and Daniel Burka in June 2007, says Pownce will disappear on Dec. 15, less than a year after its service was made available to the public.
Google is reportedly ready to purchase the Digg Web site for $200 million. The search giant could beef up its news service with Digg, where readers select and vote on stories from around the Web.
The rumors began about a week ago when images on Web sites suggested Google was testing voting methods.
Some reports say Google could complete the acquisition of Digg within two weeks, and Microsoft is said to be waiting in the wings if Google doesn't seal the deal. Digg has a three-year deal with Microsoft that would likely end if the search giant absorbs the popular news site.
