In October we told you about Boeings announcement to phase in 30% biofuel blends over the next 5 years. But its becoming clear that Boeing is doing much more than just agreeing to buy biofuels, or acknowledging the fact that planes can fly on biofuels. They are working hard to make sure that second-generation biofuels can become a reality.

A congressionally created commission has warned that China is stealing vast amounts of sensitive information from government and corporate computer networks in the U.S., including those of the nation's top defense contractors. This theft is part of China's preparation to outmaneuver the U.S. electronically in any future conflict, according to the bipartisan U.S.-China Economic & Security Review Commission.
The panel, established eight years ago, said in its annual report, released on Nov. 20: "China is targeting U.S. government and commercial computers for espionage."

Today, Virgin America plans to become the latest airline to offer in-flight Wi-Fi Internet, a service with a problematic past that still promises far-ranging flexibility in entertainment.
The San Francisco-based carrier has scheduled the service for one Airbus A320 aircraft, joining American Airlines as the only carriers in the world to offer full Internet access.

In late October, Boeing announced that they would be phasing in biofuel blends within the next three to five years. At the time, there wasn't much information about what type of biofuel they'd be using or when they'd be conducting a large scale test.
Airplanes are some of the most gas-guzzling players in our transportation industry, which makes them a good place to start implementing renewable biofuels. Boeing has recently announced plans to do just that, phasing in 30% biofuel blends within the next 3 to 5 years, depending on when the fuels obtains enough industry commercialization.
I am a nerd. I used to be an engineer and so I like calculating stuff in my head. I hardly ever use electronic calculators, even when exact calculations of something are needed, preferring to do them by hand (try it, it can be a soothing thing) on chit’s of paper, backs-of-the-proverbial envelopes, etc.
