Blockbuster is finally making an aggressive move against Netflix. The perennial movie-rental chain has partnered with 2Wire to launch the 2Wire MediaPoint digital-media player. It's Blockbuster's version of an on-demand video solution that gives movie watchers instant access to Blockbuster OnDemand content through their television sets.

Microsoft released Silverlight 2 on Monday, the second major version of its platform for creating and delivering advanced multimedia applications and experiences in a Web browser.

The company also said it will continue to back Silverlight-related open-source communities, with funding for advanced Silverlight development based on the Eclipse Foundation's integrated development environment (IDE) and with new controls to developers via the Silverlight Control Pack.

Will Circuit City join the long list of electronics retailers, like Tweeter Home Entertainment and Harvey Electronics, that have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the past year? Given that shares of the Richmond [Va.] company are trading at just over 2, Wall Street is betting that could be a possibility. "Circuit City is in very serious trouble, and any scenario is possible today," says Nick McCoy, senior consultant at TNS Retail Forward, a research firm.

For months, billionaire investor and shareholder activist Carl Icahn has been threatening to launch a blog so he could vent about corporate governance issues of the day.

Now, it appears, that day is nigh. Icahn said Wednesday that his new blog, The Icahn Report, would go live this afternoon. "We're finally getting it together," Icahn said.

Although he announced the blog in January, and even reserved the domain name (www.icahnreport.com), Icahn has yet to weigh in with any entries.
