It's election night, and CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer is in New York talking to an Obama campaign strategist in Chicago.
But instead of the split screen or window TV viewers might typically see during live remote interviews, the Obama spokesperson will be projected as a three-dimensional hologram, making it appear as if he or she is in the Manhattan studio with Blitzer. The network plans to conduct similar holographic interviews with representatives from the McCain campaign in Phoenix.

Researchers in Massachusetts are working on a technique to turn heat gathered by asphalt into useable energy via water pipes. Their paper, released this week at the International Symposium on Asphalt Pavements and Environment in Zurich, posits that asphalt roads could be better than solar panels in gathering energy.
Sony cut the price of its 60GB PS3 console in advance of this week's E3 Business and Media Summit, which finished Thursday in Los Angeles. The company also announced a new 80GB system for $499, then announced that the price would be cut $100 by fall. While news reports have emphasized the price drop, Sony tried to highlight other aspects of the PS3 experience, including the ability of PlayStation Home subscribers to download movies and inhabit virtual online communities.

In a recent federal auction of wireless airwaves, AT&T and Verizon combined for $16 billion of the record $19.6 billion in winning bids as they stockpiled more spectrum to improve coverage and turbocharge their broadband services.
